はじめに
YAAYAのAコースでは、やんばるの森だけでなく、美しい海と島の物語にも触れていただきます。
その中でも印象的なのが、古宇利島に伝わる「沖縄のアダムとイブ」の神話です。
Introduction
On the YAAYA A Course, you will not only walk through the Yanbaru forest, but also experience the stories of the sea and islands.
One of the most memorable is the Okinawan “Adam and Eve” legend from Kouri Island.
古宇利島の神話
古宇利島には、天から降りてきた男女、ウミナイ（女）とウミキィ（男）が、この島で人の暮らしを始めたという伝説があります。
彼らは最初、天から食べ物を与えられていました。
しかし約束を破ってそれを貯めたため、神の怒りを受け、それ以降は与えられなくなりました。
そしてそのとき初めて、与えられている間は気づかなかった「二人の絆」の大切さに気づいたといわれています。
The Legend of Kouri Island
According to the legend, a man and a woman, Uminai and Umikii, came down from the sky to this island and began human life here.
At first, they were given food from heaven.
However, after breaking a promise and keeping it for themselves, they lost the gods’ favor and could no longer receive it.
Only then did they realize the importance of their bond — something they had not noticed when everything was given to them.
楽園のような海
彼らが過ごしたとされる古宇利島の海は、今もエメラルドグリーンに輝いています。
白い砂と透明な海は、まるで楽園のような風景です。
The Emerald Sea
The sea where they are said to have lived still shines in emerald green today.
With its white sand and clear water, the scenery feels almost like paradise.
現代に残るかたち
島には、ウミナイとウミキィの銅像や、この神話を伝える石碑も残されています。
これは単なる昔話ではなく、今も島の人々の中に生きている物語です。
Living Story Today
On the island, you can find statues of Uminai and Umikii, as well as a monument explaining this legend.
This is not just an old story — it is something that still lives in the hearts of the people here.
